Yes I do agree with you. This is a most affected category these days and even look at the past few yrs data, very slow movement.

Although we cite the cost savings (from renewal of EAD) most people if not all who prefer to keep H1 status will definitely renew their EAD/AP just to be safe. On the AP case, I got 3 copies of multiple entry APs. My attorney told me to make copies of it and give only copies at the POE and point out that it is a multiple entry document if the officer wants to keep the original, so that the original stays with you.
This is interesting. I am trying to understand the reason why we should give copies. If you have three copies, and at POE they take one and return two, how does that harm you. I mean what is the point of keeping all three if there eligibility is 1 year and you don't expect to go out of the country a second time.
I think the advise is based on the following :
1) You need more (original copies - if you keep giving originals at POE) if you travel quite often.
2) Not every one got 3 copies. Some only got two.
3) Some officers may insist on taking the original and some may understand and accept the copy. So it is always useful to keep more originals.
4) It is ALWAYS safe to keep ATLEAST one original copy even if you think you won't travel within the validity for emergencies.
5) Although the originals after expiry may not be useful but that strategy to keep originals wont hurt. Why give the original when you CAN give a copy.
I thought on the same lines as you did when I first saw that letter from attorney, but I am going to follow the advise.

Anti-immigrants can not be able to pick on this, because Retrogression will worsen all these things. Those people will continute to work with those desi consulting companys irrespective of the fact that they have GCs or not, because they cannot stand on their own feet.
If the retrogression goes away then people with good skills can move freely in the market and will be more readily available to the market. In fact that would harm thse companys big time. Currently both good and not so good people are hostage in the hands of these companys and these companys are sort of dictating the makket conditions.
In economic terms the difference is same as Free market and monopolistic market.
thx. this is enlightening for me! survival of these companies hurts ppl with high skills, it increases retrogression, and it untimately harms the economy as well.

Just a correction SBI charges Rs. 25 for every transaction whether < 1000 or more.
Service charge of Rs.25/- (inclusive of Service Tax @ 12.36%) will be levied on every transaction where foreign currency conversion is carried out w.e.f. 16 May 2008.
As per experience, they will not charge if you transfer money directlty into SBI branch in India and if it is Greater than 1000 USD into other than SBI branch, they will not charge even that 25 rupees service charge... It was my experience till last week....you can check with customer support specailist on this.....

I am married too, but i only said that there are other easier paths aswell.
Regarding working late, i am a fulltime employee with H1-B and never came to office before 10:00AM and stayed after 6:00PM and never ever worked weekends. Mine can be an exceptional case, but what iam saying is, your relationship with your manager is important. This can make a lot of difference in your lives.
As long as you deliver what is expected of you, you can even work 4 days a week and get paid for 40 hrs per week.
I don't know, if we are deviating from our main discussion agenda started by LogicLife.
--sri
I think we are deviating. But allow me to say this. The point that logiclife made VERY largely correct. The other point that you made just now is true as well. Your relationship with ur manager sort of defines how well you wud do. But then that makes ur h1b/Gc process "manager specific" ;). Plus you and I are lucky that we dont work long hours like some others, but the average H1B worker does. Like Logiclife said, it may not be coz the employer forces you to, but you do it anyway to make yourself more useful and avoid layoff issues. I am sure most of us at this stage are more worried about losing our jobs coz of H1/GC problems than actually finding jobs or having no savings.
Someone pointed up above that some say having a GC is better and some say having a Job is better. Here is what i think. If you have a GC atleast u can find another job even it takes 2-3 months. If ur on H1b you CANNOT. About the savings, well that is an individual thing. Some save more and enjoy a little less, some enjoy life more and save less.
About whether immigration is a right or a privilege. Right now i think it is more LUCK than either one.

Hi
I agree that recapturing lost no's from previous years will be the best possible solution. But to do that we need intervention from the congress and the President needs to sign a bill to recapture the lost no's.To accomplish this goal we need to keep up the momentum generated from this june bulletin fiasco and intensify our lobbying efforts in Washington.
Kudo's to the IV core for their strong campaign in championing our cause.
Did you ever dream that USCIS will respond and have the flower campaign on ther website...
I didnt atleast.
President is in favour of illegal immigration and may be legal too.. but he cant go for new laws until he fixes the legal immigration syatem.
The momentum is really goes now...lets keep it going...

[Mr. Brown] True. If the plan B/C is not up to par with plan A then it is definitely hard to move on. Plan A (GC) gives you a grand standard of living but Plan B (India etc.) gives you a first class citizenship plus a say in the society. It's not all bad.
[harikris] Plan B/C comes into play when plan A is logically terminated. That is not the case here Mr. Brown. The process should be fast enough not to allow a life changing event to weigh in on any individual to continue with an initially chosen plan or to abandon it.
[Mr. Brown] Given the passage of time priorities/drive should be geared more towards securing and making the best of what you have (home country's citizenship) rather than what you don't have (GC). Heck, even retirement based mutual funds work in that fashion (aggressive at first, conservative as time passes).
[harikris] Going by your analogy, most "young" folks do play it aggressive(risky) by following up on their dreams and when it is time to consolidate/secure, they are facing uncertainties that are not quite under their control. I can assure you that all their efforts are indeed geared up towards securing what they have worked so hard for all along. I am assuming home country's citizenship and social circles are a given and no extra-ordinary effort needs to be applied in those sectors.
[Mr. Brown] No offense but it comes out a bit narcissist like ... don't ya think?
[harikris] No Sir. I don't believe for a second that i am asking more than what i paid for or entitled to.
[Mr. Brown] See now ... everyone keeps talking about this deal that USCIS promised us. Either my lawyer didn't give me the fine print (where the time frame was mentioned) or USCIS doesn't promise a time frame to every applicant.
[harikris] I am referring to the statements that USCIS/legislators make when they come up with yet another innovative method to overhaul the system to speed up the process and efficiently tackle the existing backlog within a pre-set target date. We have to take their word for it, if we are to have any solid grounds for making a case against backlogs. We got to STOP taking their statements with a "pinch of salt" and "wink-wink" fashion because that would mean we have lost the fight even before we enter the field. We got to "help" USCIS and work with them so that they can help us.
[Mr. Brown] You nailed it. I completely agree with you and guess what this arrogance from USCIS will come back to bite them but it will be too late. How do you think empires that rule for centuries crumble in a few years? Empathy (or lack-thereof) can bring one down to their knees.
[harikris] Thanks. We surely don't want to wish the vehicle [USCIS] that is supposed to take us to our "destination" to crash fatally. Let's strive to put USCIS back on track.
[Mr. Brown] Nothing. As second class citizens (GC/USC or not) we don't have a say in this society. We give some to get some.
[harikris] Please, do what you can. Don't resign to such thoughts. Let's come up with a solution. There is no merit sitting idle. Let's start knocking doors in all earnest and some door should open for sure.

Folks,
This my copyright and very much pertain to our situation:
*********************
I left my world in search of prosperity
The prosperity is taking an eternity
My struggle is long and daunting
Making it more and more frustrating
Life at times seems uncontrollable
Flowing with the time unstoppable
Graying hairs testify for the feeling
Fat belly making me further unappealing
Sometimes I think of going back
Try to gather the courage that I lack
But the world I left is not the same any more.
And the world I am in, has lost its lure.
I am on the crossroad of my life
One is forward, one is left and other is right.
I dont like the choices shown
May be I would have to create a world of my own
***************
Thanks
You mirrored our feelings dude. You put it all together in a nice little poem. Good job.

We have just been told by reliable sources that the bill is being sent back to the Senate Judiciary committee where Frist and Specter will rework the language of the bill, starting April 24th.
All reasonable amendments will be worked into the bill text itself. Our amendments have a lot of support and the intent is to include them into the text of the bill.
So we need contributions going forward to get our requirements into the base text, and to protect them in conference with the House.
